During this tour visitors will explore traditional architecture and rural life in Vidzeme, the historical region of northern Latvia.
Participants will see the first historic building installed in the museum – a Vidzeme threshing barn, where in the past farmers spent a large part of their lives working, celebrating festivities, honouring ancestors and holding funeral rites.
Visitors will also see the residential threshing barn–school from the “Breži” homestead near Valmiera, a witness of the Swedish era. The tour also includes a Vidzeme fisherman’s homestead, assembled from buildings transported to the museum from the coastal areas of Carnikava and Skulte.
The tour concludes with a visit to the 17th-century Ostmala Warehouse, where the museum’s open storage collection of chests is displayed.
