• The easiest way to reach the stop “Brīvdabas muzejs” from the centre of Riga is by trolleybus No. 31 operated by Rīgas satiksme.

  • From Jugla, the stop “Brīvdabas muzejs” can be reached by Rīgas satiksme buses No. 28 and No. 29, as well as by regional buses No. 5612, 6255 and 6826.

  • The museum can also be reached by bicycle or scooter along the cycle path “Centrs – Berģi”. Bicycle racks are available near the main entrance and at the Western Gate of the museum. 
  • If you travel by tram No. 1 to the stop “Jugla”, the museum can be reached by a 1.4 km walk.

Yes. Free parking is available near the museum entrance at Brīvdabas iela 21 and at the museum’s Rietumu Gate at Bonaventuras iela 10. 

During the museum’s largest events, parking areas are expanded and traffic is regulated. However, during peak hours, for example during the Annual Craft Fair, parking spaces may be limited.

Tickets can be purchased at the museum entrance. Advance booking is not required. 

Please note that during events organised by other institutions on the museum grounds, such as the Light Trail” (Gaismas taka), different ticket prices may apply. 

Yes. Visitors are welcome to take photographs and film in the museum for personal use. 

If photography or filming is intended for commercial purposes, or if the activity may affect the flow of visitors, it must be arranged in advance with the museum administration by writing to pasts@lebm.gov.lv. 

In most cases, a site rental agreement will be required.

Bicycles and similar vehicles may only be used in the museum territory by children under the age of 7. 

Adult visitors are kindly asked to leave bicycles in the bicycle racks near the museum entrance or at the Rietumu Gate.

Yes. Bicycle racks are available near the museum entrance at Brīvdabas iela 21 and inside the museum territory near the Rietumu Gate. 

During the summer season (1 May – 31 October), most exhibition buildings are open to visitors, especially on weekends. 

During the winter season, the following buildings are open to visitors: 

  • the Kurzeme farmstead dwelling house and cart shed 
  • Jaunsaimniecība 
  • the Kurzeme fishermen’s village dwelling house “Lurķi” 
  • the Old Believers’ farmstead in the Latgale village

The Exhibition Hall is open year-round from Wednesday to Sunday. 

Yes, dogs are welcome during regular visits provided that: 

  • the dog is kept on a leash 
  • the dog is not taken inside exhibition buildings 

During museum events, visitors may enter only with small lap dogs carried in a suitable carrier bag.

The museum restaurant Priedes krogs is open throughout the year, offering traditional Latvian cuisine prepared by hostess Ilze Briede. 

During the summer season, an additional open-air café “Pūnīte” operates next to the Vidzeme farmstead and the Liepāja harbour warehouse. 

Small picnics are allowed provided they do not disturb other visitors. 

Two designated picnic areas are available in the Lake Meadow (Ezera pļava) in the Kurzeme fishermen’s village. 

Please note that lighting fires of any kind is strictly prohibited within the museum territory. Smoking is permitted only in designated areas.
