Having found yourself in Latvia of the previous century, hidden in a pine grove behind Lake Jugla, do not try to perceive it as reality. Reality existed only for previous, already departed generations. What you will see, even what you will feel, will only be the idea of the people of that time about the past of their people. The museum was founded in 1924, but the ancient buildings that were transferred here, reinstalled and furnished were opened for public viewing in the summer of 1932. Today, on an area of 87 hectares, there are peasant homesteads, artisans' house-workshops, windmills, forges, potters' and tar kilns characteristic of the cultural and historical regions of Latvia—Courzeme, Zemgale, Vidzeme and Latgale.
