This introductory tour provides an overview of the Ethnographic Open-Air Museum of Latvia and its history. Visitors will learn about the establishment of the museum and the principles behind the formation of its collection of historic buildings.

During the tour visitors will see the 19th-century Priedes pub, where an exhibition of historical transport vehicles is displayed, the 18th-century Lutheran Church of Usma, and the sculpture “The Soldier” donated to the museum by the Latvian sculptor Kārlis Zāle.

The tour continues with a visit to a Courland farmer’s homestead (18th–19th century). Visitors will explore the most important buildings of the homestead – the dwelling house, cattle shed, granary and bath-house – and gain insight into traditional Latvian rural life.
