During this tour visitors will become familiar with traditional architecture characteristic of Kurzeme (Courland), the cultural and historical region of western Latvia.
Participants will gain insight into life in a Courland farmer’s or fisherman’s homestead from the second half of the 18th century to the end of the 19th century. The tour includes a visit to a unique building – a chimneyless house from the fishermen’s village of Nida (mid-18th century) – and the Lutheran Church of Usma, built in 1704.
Visitors will also learn about the traditional occupations of the region’s inhabitants, including farming, livestock breeding, fishing and crafts.
The tour concludes with a visit to the Liepāja Harbour Warehouse (17th century), where the museum’s open storage collection is displayed, featuring more than 100 chests from all regions of Latvia.
